Editorial Policy

Penny Desktop publishes practical, English-language money guides and tools for readers in the United States. This policy explains how we develop content, what our checks can and cannot establish, and how to report a problem.

Start with a useful question

Each guide should answer a specific everyday question, explain the main condition that affects the answer, and give a useful next step. We favor clear trade-offs, worked examples, and manageable checklists over broad promises about wealth or financial freedom. We do not invent personal experience, customer stories, credentials, or earnings to make an explanation sound more convincing.

Research and source checks

We prioritize relevant primary sources, including U.S. government agencies and official provider documentation. Source checks focus on whether the linked material actually supports the claim, which jurisdiction it covers, and whether important dates, limits, fees, or exceptions have been preserved.

Links and source notes help readers inspect the basis for an explanation. A search snippet alone is not a substitute for reading the source. If a central source cannot be checked, the claim needs a suitable replacement, a clear limitation, or removal. Older official material can still be useful when it remains applicable; a recent date alone does not make a source more reliable.

AI use and the limits of review

Our workflow uses AI-assisted research and drafting, followed by AI-led source and math checks. These checks are not independent human expert review and do not eliminate the risk of an incorrect interpretation, missed exception, or calculation error. We do not claim that a CFP, CPA, attorney, or other licensed professional has reviewed our content.

AI-generated text is not evidence for a factual claim. Our standard is to connect important claims to inspected sources and make uncertainty visible. Penny Desktop remains responsible for correcting the material it publishes.

Examples, calculations, and illustrations

Financial examples are labeled as hypothetical or illustrative. Numbers in those examples are not live product rates, guaranteed savings, or results achieved by a real person.

Calculations should show the relevant inputs, units, time period, and assumptions. Checks include recomputing worked results and considering rounding and exclusions. Estimates may leave out interest, taxes, fees, timing differences, or changing usage; the relevant limits should appear near the result rather than being hidden in a general disclaimer.

AI-generated illustrations are conceptual visuals, not photographs of actual receipts, bank accounts, statements, or people whose financial outcomes we have verified. Essential numbers and instructions belong in readable page text, not only inside an image.

Corrections and meaningful updates

Report a possible error through our Contact page. Include the page address, the passage or calculation in question, and a supporting source if available. Do not include sensitive account information or private documents.

We assess reported issues against the relevant sources or calculation assumptions. When a correction materially changes an answer, number, or recommendation, we update the content and its modified date and aim to explain the significant change. A spelling or formatting fix alone is not a reason to make an article appear newly researched. An update date does not mean every linked source or external price was rechecked that day.

Commercial relationships and scope

There are currently no Google ads, affiliate links, or sponsored placements on Penny Desktop. If we introduce a commercial arrangement, we intend to disclose it clearly where relevant and update the applicable policies and privacy settings before it begins. Payment should not be presented as evidence that a financial claim is true.

Our content is general education, not individualized financial, tax, or legal advice. Readers should confirm consequential details with official sources or their provider and seek qualified advice for their own circumstances. Read About Penny Desktop for the site’s purpose and our Privacy Policy for information handling.
